Privacy policy

Effective date: September 24, 2026  ·  Last updated: October 30, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how CK Laboratory LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with the Through Their Eyes: Compare mobile application (the “App”) and this website (the “Site”). We’ve tried to write it in plain language. If anything is unclear, contact us at legal@cklaboratory.com.

The short version

The App is built to keep your content on your device. Your imported photos and the live camera feed are processed entirely on your device and are never uploaded to us. We do not run our own analytics or tracking, and we do not sell your personal information. The main way information leaves your device is through the advertising we show and the app-store services that power purchases — both described below. The ads are never personalized, and the App never asks to track you. You can buy the one-time “Remove Ads” option to remove advertising entirely.

Information the App handles on your device (not collected by us)

The following stays on your device and is never sent to us:

  • Imported photos. When you import a photo, the App copies it into its own private storage on your device so you can view it through the vision filters. These originals are kept locally and are never uploaded to us and never transmitted off the device by the App. Deleting a photo in the App deletes that local copy. The App does not request access to your photo library; you choose individual photos to bring in. (You can choose to share a filtered image yourself — see “Sharing an image” below.)
  • Camera. With your permission, the App uses your device camera for its live view, which shows what the camera sees through a vision filter in real time. Camera frames are processed on your device purely to draw that live view. The App does not record the live view, does not save frames to your device, and never transmits them to us. If you choose to share the frame you are currently looking at, the App hands that single image to your device’s share sheet and keeps no copy of it — see “Sharing an image” below.
  • App settings. Small preferences (such as whether you’ve seen the intro, your photo ordering, and whether you’ve purchased “Remove Ads”) are stored locally on your device.

A note on backups. Because imported photos are stored in the App’s area on your device, they are included in your own device and iCloud backups if you have backups enabled. Those backups are managed by Apple under your Apple account and your settings — they are not something we access or control.

Sharing an image

The App can share a filtered image — either a photo you imported, seen through one of the vision filters, or the frame you are currently looking at in the live view. This only ever happens when you tap Share; nothing is shared automatically.

When you do, the App composes the image (the filtered picture, with a small caption naming the App and the filter) and hands it to your device’s standard share sheet. The App does not send it anywhere itself, and does not keep a copy. Where the image goes next is entirely your choice — saving it to your photo library, sending it in a message, posting it to another app. Once it leaves via the share sheet, it is governed by whatever service or app you chose to send it to, and by that service’s own privacy policy rather than this one.

Advertising

The App is free and supported by advertising: a small banner at the bottom of the photo viewing screen, and an occasional full-screen ad between activities. We use Google AdMob (a Google service) to select and display them. To do this, AdMob and Google may collect and process certain information from your device, which may include:

  • Device identifiers used for purposes such as limiting how often an ad is shown and preventing fraud. The App does not have access to your device’s advertising identifier, because it never asks for tracking permission;
  • Device and technical information (such as device type, operating system, general location inferred from IP address, and ad-interaction data like which ads were shown or tapped).

This information is handled by Google under its own policies. You can review how Google uses data from apps that use its services at Google’s “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services” and Google’s Privacy Policy.

Non-personalized ads only, and no tracking. Every ad the App requests is non-personalized: it is chosen from general context, such as the App itself and your approximate region, not from a profile of your activity across other apps and websites. The App does not track you, and so it never shows Apple’s “Allow tracking?” prompt.

If you are in Europe. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, the law requires consent before an app stores or reads information on your device — which advertising does even when it isn’t personalized. So the first time the App is ready to show ads there, it presents Google’s consent message, where you can agree, decline, or choose what to allow. Declining does not stop you using the App; you may see fewer ads. You can change your answer at any time from Privacy choices in the App’s … menu, which appears only where it applies.

Removing ads. You can permanently remove advertising from the App by purchasing the one-time “Remove Ads” option (see Purchases below). After that, the ad service is not used.

Ad-frequency configuration (Firebase Remote Config)

We use Google Firebase Remote Config to adjust settings such as how often ads appear, without having to release an app update. When the App fetches these settings, Google may receive basic technical information (such as a Firebase installation identifier, device type, and IP address) as part of delivering the configuration. Remote Config is used to receive settings; we do not use it to build profiles of you. Google’s handling of this data is governed by its Privacy Policy and the Firebase privacy information.

Purchases

The App offers a one-time “Remove Ads” in-app purchase. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store using Apple’s in-app purchase system. We do not receive or store your payment card details; Apple handles the transaction and shares with us only what is needed to confirm that the purchase is valid on your device. Apple’s handling of your information is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

The website and feedback form

This Site is informational. If you use the feedback form, the information you choose to enter — which may include your name, email address, and message — is submitted through our hosting provider, Netlify, and delivered to us so we can read and respond. We use it only to understand and respond to your feedback. You don’t have to provide your name or email to send feedback, but we can’t reply without a way to reach you. Netlify processes form submissions on our behalf under its own terms; see Netlify’s Privacy Policy.

What we do not do

  • We do not run our own analytics, telemetry, or crash-reporting on your use of the App.
  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not collect your contacts, precise location, microphone audio, or health data.
  • We do not upload your photos or camera imagery to us or to anyone.

Children’s privacy

The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at legal@cklaboratory.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it. Advertising shown in the App is intended for general audiences; the App is not designed or offered as a “child-directed” service.

Your choices and rights

  • Tracking. Nothing to do — the App never tracks you and never shows personalized ads.
  • Consent in Europe. Change your advertising consent at any time from Privacy choices in the App’s … menu.
  • Remove ads. Purchase “Remove Ads” to stop advertising entirely.
  • Delete your data. Delete imported photos within the App, or delete the App, to remove locally stored content from the device.
  • Contact us. Email legal@cklaboratory.com with any privacy question or request.

If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom. Where data protection law (such as the GDPR or UK GDPR) applies, you have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Our legal bases are your consent (for storing and reading information on your device for advertising, which you give or refuse through the consent message) and our legitimate interests in operating and supporting a free, ad-supported app. You may contact us at legal@cklaboratory.com to exercise these rights, and you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If you are a California resident. Under the CCPA/CPRA, you have rights to know what personal information is collected and how it is used, to request deletion, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell your personal information, and because the App shows only non-personalized ads and does not track you, it does not “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Contact us at legal@cklaboratory.com to exercise your rights.

Data retention and security

Content the App stores locally (imported photos and settings) remains on your device until you delete it or remove the App. Feedback you send us is retained only as long as needed to address it. We take reasonable measures to protect information, but no method of storage or transmission is completely secure.

International users

The third-party services we rely on (Apple, Google, Netlify) may process information in countries other than your own, including the United States, under their own safeguards and policies.

Links to other services

The App and Site may link to third-party sites and services (for example, an ad may lead to an advertiser’s page). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties, and this policy does not apply to them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide a more prominent notice. Material changes to how we handle information — for example, adding a new data-collecting feature — will be reflected here before or when they take effect.
